The board is built flat on the bench, the diamonds marked out by hand and every button pulled through before the frame goes anywhere near it.
The gold is mitred at the corners and stands a little proud of the cloth, so the velvet reads as a panel set into the frame rather than a face with a border stuck round it.
Cotton-backed velvet over a hardwood frame and high-density foam, deep enough that the quilting holds its shape.
